Lanka IOC contributes Rs. 5 Million for Disaster Relief Fund, Govt. of Sri Lanka for relief measures in the wake of devastating floods

The southern area of Island Country is facing nature’s fury and huge swathes of land have submerged due to the torrential rains during the last week. Several lives have been lost due to flooding and landslides and more than 450,000 people have been displaced. Efforts are on by the Government authorities to rescue people who are marooned and trapped in continuing rains and the fear of landslides still lurking around.
Citizen’s welfare has always been a priority area for Lanka IOC. In this hour of national crisis to supplement the rescue and relief measures, Sh. Shyam Bohra, MD, Lanka IOC handed over a cheque of Rs. 5 Million for “Disaster Relief Account”, to Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Petroleum Resources Development, Government of Sri Lanka. Hon. Minister was very appreciative of this gesture. The employees of the Company are not far behind and have pitched in with a contribution equivalent to their 1 day salary to the relief fund. The Company had also contributed Rs. 5 Million in July’2016 in relief due to another disaster arising out of a massive landslide in heavy rains. As part of its CSR activities, the Company organizes health camps, blood donation camps, distribution of wheel chairs, English literacy campaign for poor children. It has also provided ambulances and reconstructed 2 primary health centres and maternity homes.
The Lanka IOC business partners have also galvanized to associate themselves in providing relief measures at local level and also with financial contribution. The Company is also making all out efforts to restore normal operations of its filling stations which were badly affected due to this devastating flood. Continuous monitoring is being done in close co-ordination with government officials to ensure availability of petroleum products across the Island. Lanka IOC remains committed to the cause of Nation and will always be ready to extend all possible help and assistance in such hours of human crisis.

Mr. Shyam Bohra, Managing Director, Lanka IOC PLC called on Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum Resources Development, Government of Sri Lanka Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga, Mr. Ranatunga has recently taken charge of Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development. Mr. Bohra briefed hon’ble minister on the activities of Lanka IOC PLC in the country, contribution it made to the economy of the country & in particular in development of petroleum sector in Sri Lanka. He also shared future plans of the company and overview of the petroleum sector. Hon’ble minister was very appreciate of the work done by Lanka IOC and expected that Lanka IOC to play an even more active role in the development of petroleum sector in the country & will contribute to the economy of Sri Lanka.
Lanka IOC recently organized a Capability Building Workshop for its dealer network in association with the Management Studies and Commerce Faculty, Sri Jayewardenepura University.
The university’s Entrepreneurship Department Head Rukmal Weerasinghe was involved in designing the course module. Seventy dealers participated in the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Lanka IOC Managing Director Shyam Bohra. In his keynote address Bohra stressed the need for constant upgrading of knowledge through such interactions with top management institutes. He said that knowledge upgrading was equally important for the company’s dealers as it was for its executives since dealers are the real face of the company. Such workshops will help in further improving the brand image of Lanka IOC and help maintain its service leadership position in the country.
