As part of its commitment to providing environmentally responsible energy, and helping engage communities, Lanka IOC has run a tree planting campaign in collaboration with schools since 2010.
To help offset the emissions produced by the transportation sector that LIOC supplies, the company have worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the “Haritha Lanka” programme for the Mission “Clean Air Everywhere”.
By giving ownership of each tree to a student at a particular school, Lanka IOC has helped to engage children across Sri Lanka, and especially those from low income backgrounds. A stipend of Rs.100 a month is given by Lanka IOC to each child to help nurture the plant for the first three years.
On 12th February 2010, the Tree Planting project was launched at the Hemamali Balika Vidyalaya, Maradana under the patronage of Hon.Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Mr Patali Champika Ranawaka.
In the first phase alone, 1,500 trees were planted.
