Lanka IOC PLC, acknowledging its responsibility towards the society conducted several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives under its theme ‘WE CARE’ with several noble programs. In addition to a series of welfare programs including assistance for elders’ homes, renovation of healthcare centre, donation of ambulances, wheelchairs and English education for underprivileged children, Lanka IOC also organised free health camps at different locations all over the Country.

In the recent past, Lanka IOC organised health camps at Katugasthota, Ratnapura, Negombo, Dematagoda, Badulla, Vavuniya and has now organised yet another “Free Health Screening Camp” at the Lanka IOC Fuel station M/S S.H.L Abdul Carder & Son, Matale Road, Akurana, Kandy District. The programme began with a religious ceremony with a vow to ensure health screening and treatment for maximum number of people in the country and was inaugurated by Minister M. H. A. Haleem who is the Minister for Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs,

Minister Haleem praised Lanka IOC for the initiatives taken through the ‘WE CARE’ projects facilitated by the Company. This initiative received a remarkable response and appreciation from all those who patronized the ‘Free Health Screening Camp’. A total of 949 people were screened at the event, in which 626 opted for an eye check-up and 323 underwent general health check-up. Amongst those who availed themselves for the check-up, 552 were recommended for bifocal spectacles whilst 69 were recommended for cataract surgeries – all treatments are provided free of charge by Lanka IOC. In the last one year more than 3500 people have undergone such health check-ups in various camps organised by Lanka IOC.

This medical camp solicited the experience of a team of 14 medical experts from “HelpAge Sri Lanka” including 05 doctors, a nurse, a pharmacist, 02 optometrists and support staff to provide a professional service to the patients. For ensuring proper diagnosis, sophisticated medical equipments were used to screen patients for diabetes, blood pressure, vision and other diseases. Wherever critical illness was diagnosed, the patients were referred to hospitals for further investigation and treatment.

“MD Lanka IOC; Mr. Shyam Bohra conveyed that the Company, as a corporate policy, places emphasis on social responsibility and giving back to society. Our public welfare projects target the deprived and deserving, regardless of any demographic differences. During the current financial year, through the ‘WE CARE’ initiative, we sponsored free health care to underserved rural families in the vicinity of Lanka IOC fuel stations.”

One more free medical camp is scheduled in March 2016, followed by a series of such health camps in the next financial Year.

A total of 958 people were screened at the event, where 716 opted for an eye check-up and 242 underwent general health check-up. Amongst those who availed themselves for the check-up, 597 were recommended for bifocal spectacles whilst 117 were recommended for cataract surgeries – all treatments provided free of charge.

Lanka IOC PLC, under its theme ‘We Care’, conducts several corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes namely free health screening camps, assistance for elders’ homes, renovation of healthcare centre, donation of ambulance, wheelchairs and English education for underprivileged children.
As part of the CSR projects, a free health screening camp was held recently at the petrol shed on Passara Road, Badulla in coordination with HelpAge Sri Lanka providing health check-up, free spectacles and wherever necessary the patients were referred to specialized hospitals to cure their illness.
A total of 601 elders were screened at the event, where 485 underwent eye check-up and 116 underwent general health check-up. Out of the elders who were present, 438 elders were recommended for bifocal spectacles which were supplied to them as per their prescription the day and 17 elders were recommended for cataract surgeries – all treatment are provided free of charge.
The next free medical camp of Lanka IOC is scheduled in the third week of December at the LIOC petrol shed in Vavuniya.

Lanka IOC, under its CSR arm ‘WE CARE” recently donated an ambulance to the Lihiniyagama Hospital, in the Dehiathakandiya Division of the Ampara District.
It was formally handed over by President Maithripala Sirisena to the Regional Director of Health Services, Ampara, Dr. Senaka Talagala in the presence of the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe and the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka His Excellency Y. K. Sinha at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
According to Dr. Talagala, the Dehiathakandiya area has been identified by the Ministry of Health as an area affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At present, around 350 new patients have been registered in this area. The Base Hospital at Dehiathakandiya currently provides treatment to patients suffering from CKD. However, considering the large number of patients reported in the adjoining Lihiniyagama area, a Primary Medical Care Unit has been established at the Lihiniyagama Hospital to provide relief to these new patients.
President Maithripala Sirisena appreciated and welcomed the donation of this ambulance especially since a large number of CKD patients were reported from the Dehiathakandiya Division in recent times. Regional Director of Health Services, Ampara, Dr. Senaka Talagala together with Dr. Tilak Rajapakse received the ambulance on behalf of the hospital.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony Managing Director, Lanka IOC Subodh Dakwale said, “Our CSR initiatives stem from this simple yet strong belief and regular initiatives are being taken by the company in this direction”.
The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka His Excellency Y. K. Sinha said that the Government of India and many Indian companies in Sri Lanka have been providing many services to the community especially in the health sector. “The donation of this ambulance by Lanka IOC PLC is one such activity and I believe that this will be of immense help to the affected community in that area”, he said.

He added that with the donation of modern facilities to the Glencairn Hospital in Dickoya, the hospital would commence OPD functions in the near future. The High Commissioner affirmed that the Government of India had many more health projects lined up for the people of Sri Lanka. Also present at the handing over ceremony were Independent Directors and Senior Officials of Lanka IOC and Government officials.

Lanka IOC PLC commemorated the 12th anniversary of it’s operations in Sri Lanka with their annual blood donation camp in association with the National Blood Bank on 29th August 2014. As in the previous years, this year too, 267 donors consisting of Lanka IOC employees, business associates and well-wishers came together at the LIOC Head office at the World Trade Centre in Colombo and also at the Trincomalee oil terminal to donate blood . The annual blood donation camp is part of the various CSR initiatives undertaken by Lanka IOC under the theme ‘We Care’.

Lanka IOC PLC, as a responsible corporate citizen, believes that Corporate Responsibility is not merely about philanthropic activities, making generous contributions to various charitable causes but about being accountable for your actions, to all your stake holders and operating in a way that ensures long term sustainability, which in turn ensures sustainable development of the Nation. Towards this, LIOC has initiated several projects such as the English for young learners project in Colombo district under the patronage of his excellency the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, donation of libraries to two rural schools in Anuradhapura district by his excellency the President of Sri Lanka , a massive tree planting drive across the country under the ‘Go Green’ concept engaging the students, donation of wheel chairs to the elders home, donation of fully equipped ambulance to Provincial Director of Health Services , Trincomalee to name just a few.

On completion of a decade of operation in Sri Lanka, Lanka IOC under its CSR Project theme “WE CARE” decided to undertake a few activities of worthy course to serve the community in which it operates.

Number of activities under the theme “We Care including blood donation camp, developing a Bio-Diversity park at Battaramulla in collaboration with the Ministry of Enviornment, English Education for rural school children,
supply of essential medicine for Cancer patients and the donation of Wheel Chairs for needy people were lined up.

People with a mobility disability or physical disability are the same as everyone else. Disability may occur anytime to anyone for various reasons – such as accidents, illness etc., results of which may make the persons’ mobility difficult.
As a responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to support such needy people in whatever possible manner – making
life convenient, said Mr Subodh Dakwale, Managing Director of Lanka IOC PLC at the event organized to hand over the Wheel Chairs to those with mobility disability, on 11.12.2012 at its Head Office with the participation of all staff of Head Office.

Lanka IOC PLC a leader among Sri Lanka oil companies completed 10 years of business operation in 2012, and to commemorate its anniversary Lanka IOC lined up various CSR activities benefiting the community where the company has its branches. One such community-based service took place on 24 June 2013 at Hotel Taj Samudra premises.

Lanka IOC donated an ambulance to the Divisional Hospital in Mahadivulwewaa, Trincomalee hospital provides healthcare services for over 10,000 people in that area and to transfer a patient to the General Hospital in Trincomalee, it takes more than an hour; the estimated distance is around 40km. Looking into this longstanding requirement of this remote area, Lanka IOC came forward to donate the ambulance.
